Throughout my career, I have undertaken countless surveys of rivers, including habitat assessments focusing on salmonids or coarse fish as well as eel and lamprey. I have also completed many fish barrier assessments. The one thing missing from my repertoire was river habitat surveys, so I was more than a little excited when RSK gave me the opportunity to undertake an UK Environment Agency accredited river habitat survey course.

RSK is proud to have the first person to be registered on Natural England’s class licence for badgers. This article provides some background to badger ecology and protection, and the two routes available for mitigation measure licensing.

2017 European Women in Construction and Engineering awards
RSK senior geo-environmental engineer Roseanna Bloxham won Best Woman Consultant at the 2017 European Women in Construction and Engineering awards. She recently featured in Infrastructure Intelligence, as part of a series run by the website for International Women in Engineering Day on 23 June 2017.

Coventry-based RSK ecologist Dean LeFeuvre recently undertook a four-day training event given by renowned bat survey trainer Gail Armstrong for a Level 2 bat-survey class licence. The event was held at the stunning Borwick Hall Outdoor Education Centre in Lancashire. Dean reflects on his experience below.

Buried services strikes are common and liability for them depends on what was done beforehand to minimise the risk. Cases that RSK has provided expert opinion on often concentrate on what would reasonably be expected of a competent contractor and whether the service damaged should have been detected before the ground was disturbed.
